In 1900, James Marshall invented the first spring mattress. And that mattress was patented as the first pocket coil mattress, a unique independent suspension system of hundreds of coils. The Original Marshall patented coils were soft and pliable, individually wrapped and nested together. This system allowed the mattress to automatically adjust to a person's body weight, providing comfort and support for the entire length of the body. Since each coil was designed to act independently, the mattress relieved the pressure points on sensitive areas such as shoulders, hips, knees and ankles. The result?
