My Canadian Roots, on my grandmother's side of the family, take me back to William HOLINSHEAD who immigrated circa 1869 & 'set up' residence at Fairy Lake, in the district of Muskoka, Huntsville, Ontario. William HOLINSHEAD was born in 1842 at Marlin Chapple, Northchurch, Great Berkhamsted, Hertford. He was the son of William HOLINSHEAD born 1810 at Bucks & Hannah FRANKLIN, grandson of Thomas HOLINSHEAD born 1777 at Saint Michael's, Saint Albans, Hertford & Jane ?, & great grandson of William HOLINSHEAD born circa 1744 & Elizabeth ?. William HOLINSHEAD b. 1842, m. 1865 at St. Mary the Virgin, Ivinghoe, Buckinghamshire - Lucy Jane (Jennie) COLLYER born 1843 at Ivinghoe. She was the daughter of Pastor William COLLYER (of the Ivinghoe Basptist Chapel for 48 yrs.) & Mary LINES. William HOLINSHEAD & Lucy Jane COLLLYER had the following children, the first two being born in England. i) Frederick William Thomas (Tom) HOLINSHEAD b. 1866 at Berkhamsted, Hertford, m. - Elizabeth Georgina (Bessie) SLATTER ; ii) Franklin (Frank) John Augustus HOLINSHEAD b. 1869 at Berkhamsted, Hertford, m. - Isabella (Belle) Mary SEELY ; iii) Ernest Samuel (Sam) William HOLINSHEAD b. 1870 at Huntsville, Ont., m. - Esther Anne (Jessie) RUTHVEN ; iv) Jane Emily HOLINSHEAD b. 1870 at Huntsville, Ont., d. at 24 yrs. of age of diptheria, m. - John Langton BAKER ; v) Walter Gifford (Giff) HOLINSHEAD b. 1873 at Huntsville, Ont., m. - Annie Alida Elizabeth ROGERS ; vi) Harold Montford (Monty) HOLINSHEAD b. 1875 at Huntsville, Ont., m. - Minnie Florence McGREGOR ; vii) Alfred Edward HOLINSHEAD b. 1878 at Huntsville, Ont., m. - Doris Lila FRIZZELL ; viii) Hannah (Annie) Willis Brownlow HOLINSHEAD b. 1880 at Huntsville, Ont., d. at 14 yrs. of age of diptheria ; ix) Katherine (Kate) Brownlow HOLINSHEAD b. 1881 at Huntsville, Ont., m. - Percy Leopold PARKER ; x) David Arthur HOLINSHEAD b. 1883 at Huntsville, Ont., d. drowned at Rat Lake at 52 yrs. of age only a few hundred yds. from his home ; xi) Lucy Victoria (Vicky) HOLINSHEAD b. 1887 at Huntsville, Ont., d. at 7 yrs. of age of diptheria/black fever. My research has taken me back 4 generations living at Kettlewells Farm, near Saint Michael's, Saint Albans, Hertford. It is presently on-going. Around the time of William HOLINSHEAD b. 1842 emigration from England circa 1868-69, there were also two other brothers who emigrated. Walter Moore HOLINSHEAD, the youngest son, born 1851at Norcott Hill Farm, Northchurch emigrated to Canada. Place in Canada unknown. And Thomas HOLINSHEAD b. 1844 emigrated to Australia circa 1874.
